Los Angeles

soooo... we found another hampton inn in garden grove, Los Angeles, right next to Disneyland, which means that we have a firework every night. we're staying 4 nights here, get a little rest before we gotta go back to vegas.
today we hung at the pool, emptied a mall and had dinner at a faaaaancy japanese restaurant. i finally got to eat my beloved eel sushi! how i missed that... last time was in london! but i guess i wont have to wait long til i'll have my eel again ;) nd after that we went to see queen mary quickly. our original plan was to eat on the ship, but its booked out til i dunno, sometime in the future haha anyways, i dont really have much to tell you guys... maybe about tmw then, cause we're visiting hollywood and beverly hills tomorrow. rodeo drive, i'm coming! (i'm pretty sure i wont be even able to afford a coffee there, but who cares, it's rodeo drive baby! :D

only 7 days to go and we'll be back in lovely switzerland for a couple days. i'm missing everyone soooo much... my baby brother, my kitty cat, my family, my awesome boyfriend and all me loved ones :(

ps: tesoro u sucka, if ure even reading this haha... i think ure way too cool for those t-shirts xD sorry bout that :P miss you! L
pps: i cant upload pictues somehow... dunno why. i'll try to make an album in my online gallery. i'll post it if it worked ;)

San Francisco - la gente esta muy loca!

(before we arrived in san francisco we were at the sequoia national park. fuuull of sequoias, some sort of mammut trees. not much to talk about thought)

yayyy yesterday we finally arrived in san francisco! thanks to our slightly confused navigation lisa we kinda landed in the gangsta ghettos of san franny. but wow! all those different people! oh and so many homeless people :/ so it took us an hour to find a hotel in a more civilized place where we would stay to nights. so now we're at the holiday inn.
this morning we headed for the city center, deciding on a guided bus tour on one of those huge red buses. a very good idea indeed :D we had a hella fun guide called, i dunno, it sounded like sth with daniel and a lot of "s" in it. anyways, since i was the only one who was actually listening to what this "i'm your....handsome guy today;)" said, i'll tell u some (fun) facts about san francisco:

1. san francisco is known for his earthquakes. in 1906 the first of two major earthquakes took place. it caused several fires that lasted for 3,5 days. it finally stopped cause there was nothing else left to burn.

2. pier 39 is the most popular and most visited place in california. it has more visitors than disneyland!

3. after the second earthquake in 1989 the somehow had a sealion invasion. the san franciscans did NOT like that, cause the sealions  made noise and stank. however, they tried to get them away by a.) putting lots of loudspeakers between sleeping sealions and on 1, 2, 3, go! playing crazy loud music and b.) trying to scare them away with high pressure water jets.
the latter one was only a nice massage for the sealions' soft skin though. so neither of it worked, but san francisco had a fun time! and the sealions are still there :D

4. the world's first volunteer firefighter comes from, guess what, san francisco! her name was lillie hitchcock coit and as a little girl, she was saved from a fire, after which she became obsessed with firefighters. she wanted to be one of them to, so she wrote a letter to every station, asking how she could become a firefighter. they all answered, and they all said the same: "we appreciate ur effort, but unfortunately you're a woman."
i checked wikipedia and it said that she was also smoking cigars and wearing trousers long before it was socially acceptable. awesome!

5. 40% of the city is built on land fill. now who's scared of earthquakes? cause your house is gonna sink right into the ground.

6. what's all the fuss about the golden gate bridge? yeah, it's red and all... B BUT the bay bridge is exactly 6 months older, but no one really cares about that.

7. the city has about 800'000 inhabitants. on weekends, the number doubles because of all the visitors.

8. the marriott hotel opened one day before the 1989 earthquake. yep. everything kapuut (Y)

9. the starlight club at the union square was recently rated the no. 1 place to propose to someone.

10. the fantastic building of the hibernia bank is only used for bank robbery scenes in movies.

11. also there is a district (i forgot its name), which is very "unchild-friendly", but very "dog-friendly". there are more dogs registrated than kids. we counted three pet hospitals and three doggy day care centers. and there's even a waiting list to that doggy day care thing! and when it's your turn, you have to bring your dog so he could meet the other dogs, in case he wouldnt "blend in with their clientel". OMFG haha!

12. in the same district our guide showed us some houses which are older than a certain age and therefore must be kept in perfect shape. so if you live in one of those houses you have to paint it aaaaaaaall the time. if you dont, you'll get a ticket from a cop. and you'll get one every single day. that'll add up to some pretty high sum if you take your time.

we also drove over the golden gate bridge (it's really not that special) to a small town called sausalita. it's known to be the  most expensice place to live in the united states. the cheapest house there has 2 rooms and a bathroom (i didnt hear anything about a kitchen) and it costs only (!!) 2.5 million dollars. this is a little low though, because of the depression. so i guess u wanna know the the prize of the most expensive house too, huh? it's 78 million dollars! wow. and it's on sale, so you can still get it! :D
there is also a song about sausalita and i'm sure you know it too: sitting on the dock of the bay by ottis redding. oh yeah! oh and janice joplin lived there too.

after our bus tours we saw greg the bush man. he carries around a couple branches with him, hides behind them and suddenly jumps in front of people to scare them. he actually lives from the money people give him because they're so relieved they're still alive after his attack. he's been doing that bush-scare-people-thing for 28 years now. before that he worked as a chef at a nice restaurant for 17 years. what a career :P
hmmmm... what else? oh yeah, yesterday was the pride parade, so the city is full of gays. right next to the golden gate bridge there are two tunnels with rainbows on it (a gay pride thing, kinda ironic that it's on tunnels.........).

okay so i'm reeeeaaally tired and i gotta be ready for all the shopping tomorrow. so i'll say goodnight for you, just like our tour guide used to:
"Now daaaarliiiings, don't talk to strangers, that's my job."
haha! i'm off :)

Las Vegas Baby!

so after the very last time at walmart in merritt island we drove off to orlando. there we went to the florida mall just like last wednesday after seaworld. dad went through an eye exam and got perception - and sunglasses, both ray ban. we're a ray ban family now haha
since i bought everything nescessary to survive in the desert (ipad 2. sponsored by my awesome godfather, and a digicam) we were ready to go. dad wanted to show us oldtown orlando to pass the time til we wld go to the airport. lisa, our navigation system girl, got everything mixed up a little so we ended up somewhere completely different than planned. but it was a veeeery nice place. everything looked like the perfect and idyllic american dream there. big white or olive colored houses with columns and porches with rocking chairs on it. typically south! and of course us flags all around us. i think they're all preparing for july 4th.

we had a painfully boring 5hr flight to vegas (except for when they showed that movie with jennifer aniston and adam sandler), but when we arrived we were thrown into the vegas way of life immediately :D playing slots and commercials eeeeeeeverywhere.
our hotel was the hampton inn just opposite that pyramide hotel called luxor (fancy thing!!) and wow those beeeeeeds. we slept like babies! or stones.

now we're already on our way through dusty desert. moving direction death valley (what a lovely name). so just like its name says, everything seems pretty dead here. it cant be more dead. the absolute highlight so far: the dips! gotta love 'em hihi oh and just a moment ago there should have been a huge lake....it's dried out.
we drove past something like a village (there were 3 houses) where apparently some random guy decorated a  hill with pots. i wonder of what use this is to him. oh and a house on wheeeeeels! how cool is that :D

two hours later.
first real stop at a supposedly "historical ruin". it's a wall. a single wall. and i can smell the loo from 5m.
another hour later.
we just hung around the earth's lowest point (still in death valley, that thing is huuuuuge. bigger than our little switzerland). so we're 282m below sealevel and there's some kinda salt lake, which is also dried out so u can actually walk on salt. and it's so effin hot here! far more than 40 degrees celsius! my hair is burning and the wind feels like ur holding a hair dryer directly into ur face.
a couple miles further, again in the middle of nowhere, there's even a golf course. it's called "devil's golf course" hahahaha... you wont believe me when i say there's actually someone playing :D i hope his golf (!!) balls dont evapourate before he could play.

Seaworld

oohhhh yes baby today we visited seaworld! and it was amaaaazing. we went early in the morning for we had about 1hr to get there (merritt island - orlando). when we were there we started with the fastest and newest roller coaster. uuuhhhh crazy shit! ure not even in an upright position, but hanging there like chicken wings! looping after looping! but coooool hihi
so after that we ran to the next one which wasnt as smooth as the first one. i think we all have minor brain damage hahaa! so after the roller coasters we went to the shows. the first one was a shamu/killer whale show. wow i love those animals! and they were H.U.G.E! like srsly gigantic. so cool! we were a little disappointed that they wldnt do stunts with the trainers. apparently there has been an accident a couple years ago, where a young woman died because that killer whale "threw" her too high or too far or sth so she must have broken quite everything. but the show was amazing still.
so after that we went to see the sea lions and seals (yassss i can tell the difference! :D) which was fun too, but it was quite the same as it was 8 years ago. but the dolphin show! blue horizon it was called and there were not only dolphins but a vulture (geier), which was crazy big btw, flying over our heads, beautiful parrots and other funny birds, all doing a great job :) and also acrobats in trapezes! but u'll see everything on the videos if i manage to upload them.
so after all those shows we watched dolphins in their cove (ppl could touch them!) and mantas, which we also stroke (slimyyy things! but they like it :)).
we went to the florida mall in orlando after seaworld to check if i could get an ipad 2 there. and i did! i'm a proud owner of an ipad 2 now! it's soooo cool. oh and aaron and i bought ray ban sun glasses. finally some good sunglasses! (fu h&m!)
so i'm pretty tired now. gotta jump into our swimming pool quickly to cool down a little. we had sth like 40°C today! i thought i'd collapse any moment. but yeah, i know, i should stop complaining since it's raining like shit in switzerland, right? :D
all in all this was an aaaawesome day!
flamingos!

soaking wet. and we smell like dead fish!

cinnamon churros i love you!

Kennedy Space Center

So yesterday we visited the Kennedy Space Center. you get lots of information about current NASA projects, the crew and the job of an astronaut. but they don't tell u in person. no, they let u sit in freeeeeezin cold theatres (imax) and u watch a film for about 20min, then go to the next room where you get to see another film. everything was sooo patriotic! U.S. flags everywhere, proud soldiers blahblah..
oh and i'm still veeeeery sceptic about that moon landing thing. i mean, seriously, the claim to have been on the moon 50 yrs ago, but today, after 50 years of progress in technology, they really dont make it up there again? hard to believe! so yeah, maybe someone cruised a little around the moon, in its sphere or sth, but i dont think they really walked on it. so basically what they said in the videos was sth like "yeah, we've been on the moon, why go again?" (maybe because u suck at it?) and "yeeeahhh we'd like to go on mars next" (sure *cough*). Whatever.
so after our guided bus tour - i've never felt so much like a dumb tourist - we actually went to a launch simulator. that was fun! it made noise and vibrated like a real rocket and they put u in an almost vertical position, just like the astronauts who have to hang around like that for 3hrs before they get to flyyyyyyyy thru space. oh yeah the pictures from the inside of that rocket thing were cool :D i mean u can put floating peanut butter on a floating pancake hahah :D
apart from the videos and the launch simulator there was not much else to see. i mean yeah, exhibitions and models, but you know me... ;) i, personally, was fascinated by a very very cute squirell eating popcorn (see pic). so i asked myself where it got the popcorn from and saw a little boy with an XXL box of  popcorn with an XXL coke next to it. no wonder they all look like balloons over here! the whole park contained about 10 stands where you can get snacks. there was exactly 1 that offered a fruit cup.

uhhhhh, das nenn ich es auto *.*

i love squirrels hihi

so back to nature! on our bus tour we saw an eagle's nest as big as a king size bed! so you could easily lie in there and take a nap (how cool is that..??). oh and there are pelicans, other weird birds and aligator all around the place for it's a NASA protected wildlife whatever area... pretty cool though.

ummm yeah, today was a lazy day. i was at the mall real quickly, ran through victoria's secret (SAAAAALE), came out with a biiiiiig shopping bag. oh yes baby. so now we're here again, gettin a nice sun tan (as far as it is possible for me to get a tan.......swiss cheese loli says hi! oh btw, my 80 yr old neighbour told me i looked "awfully white" thanks ma'm!)
oh, dinner time! byeee

Freitag, 17. Juni 2011

oh man, so typisch...

okay so here comes the fun part! nonna forbid me to mention this, but I'm doing it anyway. It's not so bad after all...haha
on our way to our new home dad asked me to read the information sheet he got from the  house owners... and asked me if it said sth about a key. I read: "Den Hausschlüssel finden Sie beiligend zu diesem Brief." - "Beiligend??" - "Wart ich lueg namal. (pause) jap, beiligend!" -"scheisse, scheisse, scheisse..... verdammt....aahhhhhh shit......scheisse!!" -" was?? " - "ich han kein schlüssel!" - "ou haha! ja da huus bringemer scho irgendwie uuf."

zum's churz säge: what would a trip to America be without a night at the aladdin motel?? :D hahahhaha.... but at least we found a place to sleep. at 6 in the morning the home owners called us and said there was also a way to get in the house with a code. THANK GOD! so we're there, garage door is open, second key found... everyone is happy. yeah that'd be almost too perfect to be true.. nonno forgot his rucksack at the motel! yay! no problem, right? hahahaa..

well anyway, we finally made it and unpacked our stuff.. hungry as we were, we went to Denny's to have a biiiiiiiiig american breakfast!  We ordered Lumbjack Slam, New Fit Slam (dad and nonna on a diet?!) and French Toast Slam (yummyy...). Aaron had a Moon Over My Hammy hahahahahahahaha... oh and there was a faaaat black lady - i call her big mama - and she was like: "oh yeaahhhh.... I'm soo proud of your table!" and made some really weird big-mama-shakes-her-booty-move :D awesome :D
Our neighbourhood is actually pretty cute! It's called riverside and has pretty houses with swimming pools, palm trees and perfect lawns :)

around the corner you find drive through pharmacies, burger restaurants, gentlemen's clubs,  bible camps, all sorts of churches and last but not least: a gun shop! (I'll bring you all a nice little gun as a present, okaaaaaay??)
Serguei, this is for you. Here you can buttwiggle til u drop!

Florida Facts

Okay für die wo jetzt rein gar nix über Florida wüssed.. here you go:
It's the perfect place to get to know the "american way of life". Sun, beaches, optimism, fast money and happiness :D The Sunshine State!!
Florida is about half as large as Germany and one of the most popular travel destinations. the blue-green sea is just as much a natural attraction as wild aligators and pelicans. oh and mangroves!! who doesnt love mangroves, right? (remember the shrimp farming presentation in geo?? :D)

Florida was found by the Spanish Ponce de Léon (pirates of the caribbean ;)). In 1763 Spain traded Florida for Cuba just to undo that exactly 20 years later. It's very multicultural..but mostly populated by Nicaraguans, Salvadorians and Cubans, not to mention french-speaking Haitians :D

The flight

Okay so on the flight I wrote everything in my little diary I got as a birthday present from kathrin! (thanks again :))...
We've been on the plan for five hours now and I think we still have about five hours left. I'm seated next to an elderly Swiss man with residence in America.
Anyway, after this flight we'll have another 300km to drive ahead of us. I'm really looking forward to seeing the house in Cocoa Beach, which will be our home for the next 8 days. I still remember a few things from when I was there as a little girl.

- 4 hrs later -

wow I've watched 4 and a half movies, played battleship (I won!) and played tetris til level 9 (I'm so proud of me, it was really difficult... haha). Just got an extra sandwich, müsli bar and biberli for I was the only one on that plan who was still hungry after that awesome pizza ai 4 formaggi :D
I'm really trying to fight tiredness with coffee and entertaining myself, but the monotone noise of the machine makes me incredibly sleepy.
the last good coffee I'll get... mwaaaa :(

And then there's my neighbour who just wouldnt talk a single word with me! But anywaaaaaaays, I could really need a massage right now....(hi serguei!).
After 12 sudokus and a perfect landing we're finally on the roaaaaaad! 8.20 pm and it's crazy hot here!! i sweat like a pig -.- and traffic is soooo slow here... i'm glad our chevrolet has air conditioning!
"choose one." - "any car?" - "yup."
 5pm american time.

Sonntag, 12. Juni 2011

i'm off to bed now, gotta get up early and pack my stuff :D
